About

Ho Chi Minh City has more than 7,200 restaurants on TripAdvisor alone. Nobody can eat their way to an honest ranking of that, so we do not pretend to. We start from TripAdvisor's own Travelers' Choice awards — its top tier — and audit them against Google.

The method

Both platforms' scores go through the same Bayesian adjustment — a prior of 4.45 with weight 150 — so a 5.0 from 95 reviewers cannot outrank a 4.8 from 3,900.

The divergence index is the gap between the two adjusted scores, centred on the median across all fifty. Positive means Google's larger, more local sample likes it more than TripAdvisor's traveller sample does. Negative means the reverse.

Scores are re-pulled from both platforms and the ranking rebuilt on the first of every month. This page is the August 2026 run. Re-ranked on the 1st of every month; the next run is 1 September 2026.

Independence

No restaurant pays for placement. No listing on this site is sponsored. Some links here are affiliate links. They do not change your price and they pay for the monthly re-check.

Images

Photography on this site is of Ho Chi Minh City and of the food each kitchen cooks — it is never a photo of the restaurant itself. We do not have licensed interior photography, and we are not going to pretend a stock plate is your table.

Who this site is not for

Four reasons to close this tab, and where to go instead

You want Saigon's best street food

Then this is the wrong list and you should not use it. Every restaurant here won a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice award, and that award follows people who review in English near their hotel. The result is eight rooftop bars, five hotel dining rooms and six Indian kitchens in a city whose reputation rests on none of those. Start with the Bib Gourmand list instead — those are inspector-picked, they cost under $5, and only one of them overlaps with anything on this site.

You want to know what is good tonight

Ratings lag reality by months, and ours are a monthly snapshot on top of that. A kitchen that changed chef in July still carries its June reputation here. For a specific meal on a specific night, read the most recent reviews on both platforms before you commit — we link both on every page precisely so you can.

You want opening hours, a phone number or a menu

We do not publish any of them, because we do not have a reliable feed for them and stale hours are worse than no hours. Every restaurant page links straight to its Google Maps entry, which does have them and is kept current by the restaurant.

You are looking for somewhere outside the centre

Forty-four of the fifty sit in three central wards. That is what the award data contains, not a judgement about Thảo Điền or Chợ Lớn — neighbourhoods with excellent eating and almost no Travelers' Choice coverage. The areas page shows the imbalance rather than smoothing it out.

What this method cannot see

The sample is an award, not a census

This is an audit of TripAdvisor's award, not a claim to have found every great kitchen in Saigon. Travelers' Choice voting follows tourists, so a cơm tấm counter that has fed the same block for thirty years will never appear here.

Two platforms is still only two platforms

Neither Google nor TripAdvisor is an inspector, and both are open to anyone with an account. We publish the divergence between them rather than averaging it away, but two crowds agreeing is agreement, not proof. Exactly one of the fifty holds any MICHELIN listing.

Hotel restaurants are structurally advantaged

A hotel dining room collects TripAdvisor reviews from guests already in the building. The Lounge at the Sheraton holds 1,390 TripAdvisor reviews against 161 on Google — the divergence index on every card is there so you can spot that pattern yourself.

The addresses moved under our feet

Ward names follow Google's current post-2025 administrative naming, which is why they will not match older guidebooks. Two winners return only a generic city-level ward from Google; we place those by street address and say so.

We cannot see anything that is not reviewed in English

The single largest blind spot on this site. Vietnamese-language review volume on Google dwarfs TripAdvisor's, and the places with almost no English reviews at all are invisible to the award we audit.

Corrections log

Append-only. Nothing is removed from this list.

What we have got wrong
  • — Every restaurant page published an aggregateRating in its structured data, using Google's rating and review count. Those reviews are Google's, not ours, and presenting them as this site's own schema breaches Google's structured-data policy. Removed from all 50 pages. The ratings are still shown on the page, clearly attributed to the platform they came from, which is where they always belonged. A build gate now fails if it is ever reintroduced.

About this site

Who runs this?

It is published by Uncompromised Travel. One person maintains it; there is no editorial team and no restaurant relationships.

Do restaurants pay to be listed?

No restaurant pays for placement. No listing on this site is sponsored. Some links here are affiliate links. They do not change your price and they pay for the monthly re-check.

How do you make money?

Some links here are affiliate links. They do not change your price and they pay for the monthly re-check. Nothing on the list moves because of them: the ordering comes from TripAdvisor's award rank and the two platforms' scores, and none of the fifty has an affiliate relationship with us.

Why images that are not of the restaurants?

Photography on this site is of Ho Chi Minh City and of the food each kitchen cooks — it is never a photo of the restaurant itself. We do not have licensed interior photography, and we are not going to pretend a stock plate is your table.

How do I report an error?

Email [email protected] with the restaurant and what is wrong. Corrections go in at the next monthly run, or immediately if it is a closure or a wrong address.
